The Social Hub
[Place Here] never turns down a great opportunity. When we started building this company our ethos was to have the most open-minded business model possible. In doing so, we are never limited to certain types of projects, but we allow the most unexpected people and projects cross our paths on the daily.
Normally we operate as the creative backbone; the brainstormer, the designer and the production partner. But last May, The Student Hotel reached out to us with a project that was different from everything we had done so far. They were working on a massive rebranding project called 'Project Amplify', also known as The Student Hotel 3.0. This project would reimagine what TSH stands for and what they offer to their community. TSH needed a partner that could help managing the creative side of this massive undertaking of a project. Obviously this is not something we usually do, but it immediately felt like the next step that we’ve been wanting to take for a long time.
1 Brand, 5 months, 7 countries, 16 hotels, +/-800 items; that was the briefing. [Place Here] was given the task to oversee and carefully plan out every little task, manage a dynamic team of creatives and other employees, weekly update the different departments within the company on the progress made, and eventually roll out all the created assets to the different hotels spread all throughout Europe.
The project involved designing a diverse range of items, from simple soap bottles to complex multi-language digital guest directories and indoor wayfinding packages. Among the 800 projects, two stood out as particularly challenging. The first was the vinyl stickering and outdoor signage for the hotel facades. Implementing the branding kit on 16 hotels with varying heights, window placements, and structures posed real challenges, but the collaboration of planners, designers, real-estate experts, and production companies resulted in stunning outcomes.
The second unforgettable project was the Brand book, the essence of The Social Hub's story. It showcased the rejection of outdated ways and the vision for the future, including opening the 50th Hub in Europe. The book was divided into four parts, "One Brand," "One Community," "One Experience," and "One Team," all working harmoniously to bring the new slogan "Learn, stay, work, play" to life for every guest.
As you might have expected, we didn't do this alone. No, there was a huge family of individuals that seamlessly worked together for months to create this masterpiece. First of all we want to thank Niek Bults for inviting us to work on this amazing project. It's not often you get the change to work on the rebranding of a €2.1 billion company. Second of all we want to thank John van Dorst for showing us the ropes when it comes to Project Management. And last of all we want to thank everyone that we have worked with to create everything you are seeing right now. We are talking about the designers, the copywriters, the IT department, the procurement team, and of course everyone that is a gatekeeper of the individual parts of The Social Hub's community. It was a team effort, and it was one for the books. We can't wait to see what The Social Hub will have to bring to the world in the future!
